Auditions for the Morning Music Club
Joseph Maerz Award
The Morning Music Club of Macon sponsors this award, annually. The purpose of this $2,000 scholarship award is to encourage and reward achievement and excellence in musical performance. The Maerz Award was started in 1969 and is named for Professor Joseph Maerz, a member of the Wesleyan College faculty, who was widely known as a teacher, music critic and performer.
Attached you will find an intent to audition form, application form, application guidelines and rules governing this competition.  Please forward this email to prospective high school senior contestants and music teachers.
The Intent to Audition form and entry fee must be 
postmarked by Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Video audition must be received by
Friday, February 23, 2018

 We are accepting applications for Education Together scholarships until March 15. These needs-based scholarships defray the cost of higher education or technical training for ambitious economically disadvantaged students.

 Additionally, we are calling for nominations for Teacher Excellence Awards.

 Genaral Guidelines for Education Together Scholarships

1. Must be a graduating senior at a public or private high school, or a homeschooled student in one of seven counties: Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach or Twiggs. 

2. Must be accepted to, and planning to enroll at one of five designated Education Together colleges: Central Georgia Technical College, Fort Valley State University, Mercer University, Middle Georgia State University or Wesleyan College. 

3. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.o, which the student is required to maintain throughout the scholarship. 

4. The application period for Education Together scholarships opened December 15, 2017 and deadlines March 15, 2018. 

5. In all Education Together scholarship categories, preference is given to students with the greatest financial need. 

6. A student may only receive one Education Together scholarship: Education Together, Mercer University or Navicent Nursing. 

I. Education Together Scholarships 

Award: number varies – 18 scholars in 2016 & 2017. $10,000 each ($2,500 per year for up to 4 years).

Appilcants Must:

  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of a B (3.0) or better.
  • Participate in at least one of the 47 sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Association and sponsored by your school.
  • Be a leader in school and in the community and serve as a role model for underclassman.

Each year, the Houston County Republican Party awards a scholarship in the amount of $500 to

a Houston County, GA high school senior. This scholarship is designed to provide financial

support to a graduating high school senior who espouses the values of Conservatism and the

Republican Party. This scholarship is based on: essay content, civic and school involvement,

and contributions to local government and/or campaign activities that show dedication to

Republican principles.


1. The applicant must be a Houston County resident.

2. The applicant must be a graduating senior in the spring of 2018.

3. The applicant must be attending college in the fall of 2018.

4. A brief letter of recommendation from an adult (not a relative) who can attest to

your character and activities must be emailed (preferred method) or

postmarked by Friday, February 23, 2018 to the address below.

5. Attach a small, current photo of yourself to your application.

6. Use the space provided on the application form for all your answers except

the essay. The essay should be attached to the application form and should be no more

than two typed pages in length.

7. Your application, picture, and essay must be emailed (preferred method) or postmarked

by Friday, February 23, 2018.
